Previous consultations

So far we have made two formal submissions to B&NES Council:

We commented on B&NES Council’s Approach to Budget Cuts as set out on their website.  Our comments were submitted on 17 November 2010.

Comments on the draft Core Strategy.  The Core Strategy is the 15 year framework for planning new housing and land development (for industrial, office and retail use) in B&NES.  It is a high-level strategy so many of the planning concerns of disabled people are not addressed in this document.  However we felt that it was important to get across some points about the rising numbers of disabled people.  We were shown the draft plan in confidence so we cannot make it available here but attached are our comments which we submitted on 16 October.

In addition to formal written consultations published by public organisations we have been involved in discussions on a number of issues affecting disabled people.

  • BathWayfinding Project– this is a project which will help visitors find their way around Bath.  EqualityB&NES was invited to a consultation meeting to look at the proposed design of the information.  A sample design was available for members to examine at the Open Meeting on 20th September.  We have given positive feedback on this project which should make it easier for all visitors to navigate round Bath.

  • BathSpa Station– We have spoken to First Great Western about the planned redevelopment of Bath Spa Station.  We are satisfied that the lifts will meet the needs of wheelchair users, and that they will be available before the current ramped access to the Eastbound Platform is removed.  We have some concerns about other aspects of the development at the front of the Station but we will need to speak to Network Rail which owns this land.
